Basketball is like car insurance?

I would like to talk about how car insurance relates to basketball. Now we all know that this could be  like an advertisement to get you guys to look up car insurance... But I want to look at the bigger picture of how investing into your game is like car insurance. So let's talk about it. You see that there are tons of people out there that put time into something that they love and benefit the hard work they put into whatever it is they do. For example, I put a lot of time into posting blogs to help out people who want to know what is going on with my life and to show people my side of the world of basketball. I spend a lot of time gathering information and reading different stories so that I can gain knowledge. But I know that there may be people who will disagree with me. It's okay.
Okay back on topic, car insurance...As a basketball player, I know that my athletic ability is limited. I understand that my time of success on the court wont last forever. So I shouldn't invest my everything into playing basketball. You're probably like, "What the heck?!" But you gotta understand something, Let's say I put my all into sports and one day I get seriously injured to where I can't play... Now what do I have? I invested all my effort, time and money into this sport...For what?
So as you go through your athletic career, develop something else along the way. Make yourself more valuable. Get involved in your school, get involved in your community. Have a backbone in life so that you are still going to make it in life if you seriously injure yourself to where you can't play anymore. Invest into little things, make the most of every opportunity that you have so that life is still satisfying beyond sports. Basketball is like car insurance because if you put your life into little things outside of sports, you will be okay when sports or basketball ends...

Heat or Beat?

Have you ever wondered about the Miami Heat and how the team can cope with having three superstars? It is amazing when you have a team that has so much talent and so much power it is almost hard to understand that a team can cope with each other. It amazes me that LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh can all play together. I mean who is the superstar on the team. At one point superstar's ego have to collide. But with such talent and such power completing a championship would be really hard to accomplish if the Heat were fighting or not being a complete team.
And that is my topic I would like to talk about today. Being a team player.
Now anyone can have raw talent doing 360 windmill dunks and be a superstar. But it takes more than flash and fame to make a complete team. What is the meaning of a team player? Being a team player is willing to make a sacrifice to make the team the best it can be. And that means that making yourself fully available to do ANYTHING to make the team better. It is making the extra pass, it is diving on the floor, it's giving up of yourself and it is protecting your family. Being a team player is going outside of your boundaries to make the bigger picture better. The little things are what are most important. The little things are important in sports and in life. That's why I believe sports are such a benefit in life because we get to learn life skills through athletics. Being the team player is very important. It makes teams like the Miami Heat become a championship caliber team because King James, Bosh, and Wade are all team players. They will be great.
Remember, when you aren't doing something to make yourself better, someone is.

can't miss a day

Today I was thinking of how important one day of our lives are ... one moment, one day of our lives is a big deal. If you think about it, one day we waste could be one day that we as athletes could be using to get better at something . In life its ok to take a break from time to time. It's also important to seize the moment. That moment when we slip or make a mistake could impact us for the rest of our lives. So use every moment that you have to get yourself the best you can be and so you can be satisfied with yourself that you gave it your all. Remember , when you aren't working to get better , someone is ...

Back @ Home!

I am finally home after a very long trip from Prague, Czech Republic. I have had so much fun on the trip and have been so blessed for what I have experienced. God put me through a lot of stuff and a lot of that has been very positive. My eyes have been opened to see a new world. This trip has inspired me to do some things... First I would like to use the bus more often. In Czech, gas is 8 dollars to the gallon right now! Obviously they charge by the liter but when it comes to gallons, it is super expensive. So I have been challenged by the culture of Czech to ride the bus more frequently to save money and gas. Another this that Czech has inspired me to do is be more involved with my community. I know that sometimes we all get locked into our own little world but for me, I can take it to a bigger level of being in my own world where sometimes I feel isolated. And that is not good.
So my goal this summer is to find some things to volunteer with my church and my community to just have fun doing something and helping out.
This trip has truly been a blessing to represent Multnomah University and the basketball team as we shared some of God's light to a different country where God is needed.
